What's the difference between a Core Duo and a Core 2 Duo processor?

I'm totally lost.

What's the difference between a Core Duo and a Core 2 Duo processor?

It's unadulterated simple.

Core 2 Duo is just the second classmates of Core Duo chips.

Core Duo = generation 1

Core 2 Duo = equals 2
