PATA / SATA / ATA AND IDE? Is IDE and ATA like thing? Which one is the most adjectives format?

PATA, ATA, IDE are all matching thing IDE is presently being replaced by the newer technology for intricate disks SATA

as for the most common it's strong to say for sure but my money would be on IDE mortal the most common but that will tweaking in the implicit future

ATA id the protocol and hardware combination which controls the drives. The IDE is the ingenious interface, this uses P (Parallel)ATA. A complete change to overcome speed limitations etc is S(Serial)ATA, which uses different types of connector. You any need a motherboard which supports this or a PCI card adaptor. Some machines read SATA ad IDE, others read them as SCSI, which is another type of connection, it allowed far more drives than IDE, but be relatively expensive to implement, and sometimes difficult to configure, so it largely only saw and still see use in trunk servers. PATA is still the most common, but on modern machines SATA is most common.
